SafeTalk and Fostering Mental Wellness Training

On December 2nd, 2021 the LMSPC will be offering BOTH SafeTALK and Fostering Mental Wellness Trainings. Tickets can be purchased for individual trainings, or both at a reduced rate.

Fostering Mental Wellness: 9:30am-12:30pm

You have a basic understanding of mental health from your professional or personal experiences. Now you want to learn how to take a strengths-based approach to cultivating a mentally healthy environment where you live, volunteer, work or play.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the elements of- and challenge misconceptions about- mental health and mental illness.
  • Discover tools to identify individuals in distress
  • Craft your own narrative of resilience in your wellness journey
  • Take a strengths-based, anti-oppressive approach to examining the mental health-related attitudes and experiences of individuals who identify with marginalized sociodemographic groups
  • Use the notice-listen-connect method to support individuals struggling with their mental health
  • Initiate a strengths-based dialogue about accessing and evaluating mental health resources appropriate for the individual

SafeTALK: 1:00pm-4:00pm

SafeTALK, about three hours in duration, is a training that prepares anyone over the age of 15 to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Alert helpers know how to use these opportunities to support that desire for safety.

As a SafeTALK-trained suicide alert helper, you will be better able to:

  • move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide;
  • identify people who have thoughts of suicide; and
  • apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with suicide thoughts to suicide first aid, intervention caregivers.

Price includes training, materials, and certificate of completion.
