“Suicide is a public health issue. Each year, 4000 Canadians die by suicide, resulting in significant emotional turmoil and other consequences for the survivors.
Suicide remains the second leading cause of death among youth, a subgroup that is uniquely impacted by this preventable tragedy. Within the last three months alone, we have learned of the death by suicide of four youth in the London-Middlesex area. To create suicide safe communities, however, comprehensive multi-sector approaches that involve youth, families, youth-serving agencies, organizations, companies and the general public are necessary.
With the support of Ontario Trillium Foundation and Bell Let’s Talk, community mental health agencies have come together as partners to create a strategy that addresses many risks linked to suicide. The youth suicide postvention supports provides community members in the London and Middlesex Community with a road map that can guide community efforts in the aftermath of a suicide.” – EQ4 Project- London Family Court Clinic
